Special Education is a complex and ever changing system of laws, policies, practices, and principles.  Navigating the Special Education process can be complex and confusing.  The Sutter County SELPA is here to help insure every child receives the best Special Education has to offer.  If you have any questions the SELPA is here to answer those questions and to help you partner with your child's school.

The purpose of Child Find is to locate and evaluate children who are suspected of having a disability.  If it is determined that the disability interferes with learning, special education and/or related services may be recommended.  Related services may include (but are not limited to) Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy.
 

Who may refer children?

Anyone can refer a child, including any of the following:
  • Parents/legal guardians
  • Other family members
  • Physicians
  • School personnel
  • Child care providers
  • Communtiy agencies
  • Infants and Toddlers programs
 
Please contact your local school district to make a referral.  To refer children ages 0-3 please click HERE.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Alternative Dispute Resolution is a process that provides an alternative means of resolving disagreements and disputes that may arise between you and your child's school.  The intent of the ADR process is to maintain the postive, collaborative relationship between a family and the school.  This process allows the parties involved to control and shape thier own agreement.  
 
Some components of ADR:
  • Phone Consultation with a SELPA representative
  • Proactive Resolution Session
  • Community Events
